Community-based tourism is a form of tourism where the local community has substantial control over and involvement in tourism development and management. As a result, benefits remain within the community. Over the years, numerous volunteers have worked to build and strengthen the capacity of local villages, small business owners, and tourism stakeholders. This includes setting up an estimated 40 authentic cultural homestays in 4 villages: LAO CHAI, TAVAN, TAPHIN and GIAN TA CHAI. In addition, the CBT Vietnam project has trained over 60 tour guides who supplement the homestay product with trekking tours to the villages.
Buffalo Tours sat down with Chris Carnovale, Capilano University instructor and alumni, about his experience with the CBT Vietnam project.
Award-winning filmmaker and Capilano University alumni, Kyle Sandilands, has volunteered countless hours towards filming and editing videos about CBT Vietnam.
